This level of responsibility and exposure ensured my role was exciting and dynamic as well as challenging
I joined Dixon Wilson as an intern in the summer between my second and final year at Loughborough University (where I studied Mathematics and Sports Science).
Before applying, I was considering a career in accountancy, and this scheme offered me the perfect chance to explore this avenue before committing to a training contract.
During the two months as an intern, I was involved in various projects in accountancy, tax and audit and worked on a range of clients including high net worth individuals, charities and companies, some of whom I met during this time. This level of responsibility and exposure ensured my role was exciting and dynamic as well as challenging, as I constantly learned new concepts and information. Despite my limited prior knowledge and experience, the support from colleagues ranging from juniors to partners made me feel like a valued employee and offered the chance to make a difference in the office.
My involvement spanned beyond the office thanks to the social committee ensuring that there were plenty of social events to get involved in - be it on top of the 02 arena, or attending a monthly drinks event. This affirmed to me that Dixon Wilson has a truly unique culture, providing ample opportunities and would be a great place to start my career.
After the internship, I completed my final year at Loughborough, before heading back to DW to commence the graduate programme. I am currently enjoying my studies towards the ACA qualification and at the same time building up my professional experience in the office.
