I joined Dixon Wilson on the ACA Graduate Programme and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2021. I continued as a supervisor building my portfolio of corporate, charity and trust clients including some personal tax work. I was promoted to Manager in 2023.

Training at Dixon Wilson provided me with the opportunity to obtain experience in a variety of different areas of work. This allowed me to recognize the areas I was interested in and then specialise once I qualified. There are range of different sectors that Dixon Wilson specialises in, such as art advisory and renewable energy which are particularly interesting and are uncommon at other firms. There is also a wealth of knowledge at the firm, which really allows you the opportunity to develop your technical abilities as more senior members of staff are always more than happy to help where possible.

Working in practice provides an opportunity to work on a diverse range of clients and industries, meaning that our day-to-day work is often varied. Furthermore, there are a number of advisory projects to get involved in, which whilst at times can be challenging are often the most rewarding. The partners really take a keen interest in your personal development and go out of their way to help you, even outside of normal working hours.

Given the size of the firm, everyone does know everyone and there is a strong social culture in the firm, with the firm hosting regular social events. My favourite is our annual Sri Lankan new year celebration. I have also enjoyed the annual company golf days, despite my lack of ability to play golf, it’s always a fun day out and accommodates a broad range of abilities. There is also a lot of sport played at Dixon Wilson, played both internally and externally against other firms, which really makes it easier build relationships with people within the firm.
